MU Tendering & Design Manager

Are you an experienced utilities professional with the technical knowledge and leadership skills to develop a high-performing Tendering and Design team?

Energy Assets Utilities is looking for a Tendering and Design Manager to lead our Multi-Utility Tendering and Design teams across the North UK region.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will ensure that tenders, quotations and designs are technically accurate, commercially sound, fully compliant and delivered on time. You will work closely with Business Development, Operations, clients and colleagues across the wider Group to provide a seamless customer experience - from the initial tender through to post-acceptance design approval.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading and managing the North UK Multi-Utility Tendering and Design teams.
  • Ensuring all tenders, quotations and designs comply with relevant legislation, industry standards, codes, pricing policies and adopting network-owner requirements.
  • Maintaining consistently high standards of technical accuracy, quality and compliance.
  • Ensuring quotations and designs are completed and issued to customers within agreed timescales.
  • Working collaboratively with Business Development, Operations, the wider UK Multi-Utility Design team and other Group functions.
  • Building strong, productive relationships with clients, external partners and industry stakeholders.
  • Managing team performance against key measures, particularly accuracy, compliance, quality and timeliness.
  • Producing clear and meaningful performance and management reports.
  • Coaching and developing team members, identifying development needs and supporting career progression.
  • Managing recruitment, performance and retention to build a capable and engaged team.
  • Reviewing processes, systems and team structures to identify and implement continuous improvements.
  • Creating an environment in which colleagues feel supported, accountable and motivated to deliver exceptional results.

What we’re looking for

You will bring strong technical knowledge of the utilities sector, particularly multi-utility network design, alongside the confidence and credibility to lead a technical team.

You will also have:

  • Relevant experience within the utilities sector.
  • A strong working knowledge of multi-utility network design and applicable industry standards.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise competing workloads effectively.
  • Sound commercial awareness and judgement.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience of planning, performance monitoring and management reporting.
  • A degree in an engineering-related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in a similar technical, tendering or design role.

Previous leadership or management experience would be advantageous, although we would also welcome applications from experienced technical professionals who can demonstrate the capability and ambition to take the next step into leadership.

Membership of a relevant professional institution - such as IGEM, IET, CIWEM or ICE - and Incorporated Engineer status, or progress towards it, would also be desirable.
